TO THE DOGSTO THE DOGS traces the historical roots of dog ownership from the hunting dogs of ancient Sparta to the pampered pooches of Paris. Through a collection of more than 90 full-page photographs, the canine companion is pictured in various guises from protector, defender, show dog and pampered best friend to loner, scavenger, hunter, fighter and killer. The accompanying text by writer Peter Culley is based on his extensive research on dogs, and bars no holds as he examines our physical and psychological relationships with dogs.

Hardcover, 176 pages, $32.95 CAD. Order from Presentation House Gallery, North Vancouver BC, tel: 604-986-1351, email: ehood@presentationhousegall.com

CHRISTINE BOURDETTECHRISTINE BOURDETTE: RIDDLES, BUNNYHEADS AND ASIDES was published for the 2008 exhibition held at The Art Gym at Marylhurst University. The exhibit featured 50 sculptures and six drawings created over the last 20 years, the most comprehensive selection of the Portland artist's work to date. An essay by Linda Brady Tesner, Curator of the Hoffman Gallery at Lewis & Clark College, traces and defines Bourdette's themes and formal explorations since 1987. Preface by The Art Gym's Curator Terri Hopkins, exhibit checklist, and a Curriculum Vitae complete this catalogue.

Hardcover, 76 pages, $30 USD + $5 shipping/handling. Available from The Art Gym, Marylhurst OR, tel: 503.636.8141, ext. 3383.

TORRIE GROENINGTORRIE GROENING: A MAXIMALIST FOR DINNER is a slim volume of luscious colour plates with foreword by Darrin Martens, Director/Curator, Burnaby Art Gallery and an essay by former Director, Roger Boulet. Published for her exhibit at the gallery Sept 9-Oct 26, 2008, the catalogue presents fine photographs of nine photo-based, digitally-collaged images printed on rag paper and mounted on aluminum. The images of sumptuous imaginary banquets are reminiscent of 16th century allegorical painting.
